A little trip back over the past twelve months when I started my journey to explore Molise.
If you followed my blog then you will how it all began.
A view across from my home near Lucito...............
I fell in love in Molise and want to lead you along the road to discovering all its well-hidden treasures.
Torella Del Sannio
This year I visited the tiny chapel of Pietracupa, which is built into the rocks. A unique, peaceful place hidden away from the world, which you must see if you visit Molise.
Tramped across this interesting bridge at Roccomandolfi
The castle in Lupara
An amazingly interesting range of images adorns the town's walls bringing a unique brilliance that brings character and spirit.
There too earlier in the year, I joined local people to celebrate a procession through the town with cattle, sheep and horses parading right through the town.
It was a joy to see such pride in the people of the town, as they all took part in the celebrations.
Campobasso is one of three large towns in the region, the others being Termoli and Isernia.
The town is divided into two parts, the historical town, dominated by a large imposing castle, and an impressive church which sits above the city.
Decorated too with a huge number of murals, the most dramatic of which dominate the bus station and a number of apartment buildings festooned with huge pictures which bring colour to the skyline.
The old town of Campobasso is home to some old and interesting little shops many of which have been there for more than fifty years.
Although not an inspiring town particularly it is fascinated historically, both back to times when it dominated the region in the time of the Samnites. and many, many years later when it became labelled as Maple Town because a large number of Canadians were based there.
Isernia one of the other major cities is also a very ancient town, dominated by a splendid piazza, surrounded by some cosy, friendly bars.
The main streets in the town too are cobbled and packed with fascinating little shops.and galleries.
Snow topped mountains dominate the scenery around the town which nestles in the valley.
The other town is Termoli, which sits on the coast it's castle on the peninsula. In contrast to Isernia, and Campobasso, it is a uniquely different place it's ancient history still paramount in the story of Molise.
Still exploring Molise from one side to the other there is a great deal to discover, and I am looking forward to finding out a lot more.
Take this journey with me, as there is so, so much more to see..

There are wall murals in Santa Croce Di Magliano which brighten and enrich this small town on which sits on the border of Molise, and Puglia, painted every year in a celebration of Antonio Giordano. He was a local artist and sculptor who lived there. Now his daughter carries the tradition on by providing the opportunity every year, to create more murals.
